If anxiety or sadness prevent you from enjoying your daily life, we can help. In our center, we work from an integrative approach to identify the source of distress, relieve symptoms, and foster resources that allow you to recover emotional stability.

Depression

Depression is a common disorder that affects our mood and manifests through exaggerated and repeated worries and difficulty adapting to changes in personal or professional life.

Common Symptoms:

  • Deep sadness
  • Lack of energy
  • Irritability
  • Isolation
  • Guilt
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Appetite changes
  • Pessimistic thoughts

The causes of symptoms can be very varied and not always clear; in any case, discomfort indicates the need to make changes in one's life. Depressive disorders may be accompanied, to a greater or lesser degree, by anxiety.

Relationship between anxiety and depression

They are considered different diagnostic categories but are often intimately related. The clearest explanation refers to depression arising from an attempt to solve a problem. Solving the problem involves an effort that generates anxiety which increases as it is realized that the problem cannot be solved.

At that moment, depression appears, but logically, the attempt to solve the problem is not completely abandoned, so anxiety persists associated with depression.

Anxiety

Anxiety is an emotion that arises as a natural adaptive response when a person feels in danger. It is considered a problem when an intense and disproportionate response occurs, affecting daily activity.

Often, it is difficult to identify the source of danger; most of the time, they are very nonspecific fears that are maintained either by not knowing how to resolve them, minimizing the effects of apparent danger, or because it has become chronic.

Physical Symptoms

  • Palpitations
  • Sweating
  • Chest pressure

Psychological Symptoms

  • Excessive worry
  • Insecurity
  • Lack of concentration

Behavioral Symptoms

  • Paralysis
  • Hyperactivity
  • Avoidance

Panic attacks

Sudden and abrupt onset of intense fear or discomfort, accompanied by symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, shortness of breath, fear of losing control, or dying.

It is common for agorafobia to appear as a complication: the fear of suffering a new attack in places where it is difficult to leave or receive help.

Treatment Approach

Recent studies have indicated that terapia psicológica cognitiva is not only more effective than psychopharmacological therapy in the long term but is also much more accepted as it has no side effects and allows for resolving deep conflicts.

Pharmacological therapy is useful in some cases to reduce persistent symptoms, but the recommendation is always to combine it with specialized psychological support.
